Loretta L. del Mercato graduated in 2004 in Biotechnology at University “Federico II” of Naples (IT) and obtained her PhD in 2007 in “Innovative Materials and Technologies” at the ISUFI (Institute of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies), University of Salento, Lecce (IT). After a postdoctoral stay at the Department of Physics at the Philipps University of Marburg (DE) in the Biophotonics group of Prof. W.J. Parak, she became a researcher at the Nanoscience Institute of CNR, NNL of Lecce. She has won numerous awards, among them the Technology Review “Top 35 Innovators under 35 (TR35-YI)” (Italian Edition), a Travelling Grant sponsored by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology Office (COST), and a DAAD grant (German Academic Exchange Service) for a short-term research stay in Germany.
